LDC's Catalog and OLAC

five stars
The Open Language Archives Community (OLAC) is an international partnership of institutions and individuals who are creating a worldwide virtual library of language resources by: (i) developing consensus on best current practice for the digital archiving of language resources, and (ii) developing a network of interoperating repositories and services for housing and accessing such resources. The key to an effective archive is metadata. Better metadata improves search capabilities thereby increasing the likelihood that all of the resources returned by a query are relevant and that all relevant resources are returned. OLAC's metatdata fields are based on the complete set of Dublin Core metadata terms but the format allows for the use of extensions to express community-specific qualifiers.

LDC supports OLAC and is among the 37 participating archives who have contributed over 36,000 records to the combined catalog of language resources. LDC's Catalog is consistently awarded OLAC's five-star quality rating for overall metadata quality. Visit the OLAC Language Resource Catalog and browse this impressive collection.
