apply(ies) to use the speech, transcript and text corpus designated as
the Kids Corpus subject to the following understandings, terms, and
conditions. These understandings, terms and conditions apply equally
to all or to part of the corpus.
1. Permitted Uses.
1.1 The Kids Corpus may only be used for linguistic research and development, including but not limited to speech recognition, machine translation, natural language processing, document understanding, information retrieval, and foreign language teaching technology.
1.2 Summaries, analyses and interpretations of the linguistic properties of the corpus components may be derived, solely for the purpose of research and development. Any such use shall not infringe the rights of any third party including, but not limited to, the authors and publishers of Weekly Reader.
2. Access to the Corpus by individuals.
2.1 Access to the Corpus by an individual person is to be controlled by that person's organization. The organization may only grant access to people working under its control, i.e. its own members, consultants to the organization, or individuals providing service to the organization.
2.2 Individuals may be allowed access to the Kids Corpus only after completing a copy of the Application of an Individual to Use the Kids Corpus, as provided with this application. The access is to be terminated when the conditions of the application no longer apply. The organization will retain the applications of all persons ever granted access to the Information and make them available upon request to any of the copyright holders and to the institution or agency holing this completed application.
2.3 The organization will maintain and post a list of people with current and recently-terminated access to the Kids Corpus.
2.4 An individual with access may only display the Kids Corpus to or share the Kids Corpus with persons whom his organization lists as having access to the information.
3. Copyright
3.1 The copyright holders retain ownership and reserve all rights pertaining to the use and distribution of the Kids Corpus.
3.2 Except as specifically permitted above and as necessary to use and maintain the integrity of the Kids Corpus on computers used by the organization, the display, reproduction, transmission, distribution or publication of the information is prohibited.
3.3. Violations of the copyright restrictions on the Kids Corpus may result in legal liability.
3.4. The copyright holder of the prompting texts contained in the Kids Corpus is:
