Member Surveys

LDC conducted two end-of-year surveys to obtain feeback on satisfaction levels with LDC Membership and data releases as well as our corpus catalog, and to gather suggestions on future publications.

2007 Member Survey Responses-- February 26, 2008

Please click here to access a summary of the responses to Questions 1-15 of the 2007 Member Survey. These questions were sent to all survey recipients. We also received many suggestions for future releases, among them:

• * More African language publications
• * Gigaword corpora in additional languages
• * More annotated data for a greater variety of uses
• * More parallel text corpora
• * Web blogs and chat room data

Several corpora that would satisfy these needs are prospective 2008 publications.

The winner of the blind drawing for the $500 benefit for survey responses received by January 14, 2008 is Richard Rose of McGill University. Congratulations!

2008 Member Survey -- December 20, 2007

In order to determine how the consortium as a whole views the LDC, we are conducting a survey of our active users. Each person and organization who licensed data and/or purchased an LDC membership in 2006 and 2007 will have received an email on December 17 that contained a link to the online survey. Those who complete the survey before January 14, 2008 will be eligible to win a $500 benefit good towards any corpus or membership purchase in 2008. There will be a blind drawing in January 2008 and one winner will be selected from the pool of respondents. Based on last year’s response rates, each respondent will have an approximate 1 in 100 chance of winning!

2006 Member Survey Responses - February 20, 2007

We are pleased to announce the results of LDC’s 2006 End of Year Survey. We sent the survey to all those who received LDC data in 2005 and 2006 (members and nonmembers). The survey was customized to respondents’ affiliation with the LDC (Standard, Subscription or Former Members and Non-Members) and focused on a few key issues:

• Satisfaction levels with LDC’s data, homepage and Catalog
• Satisfaction levels with LDC Memberships (where applicable)
• Suggestions for future data releases

Those who responded to the survey are generally satisfied with their membership benefits and the LDC catalog and homepage. Nevertheless, respondents indicated some areas for improvement, among them, the way membership information is presented on our website. We will be incorporating their suggestions into our 2007 planning. 

  We also received several suggestions for future releases and a few cropped up regularly:

• N-gram data sets
• More treebanks
• More annotated data for a greater variety of uses

Some of those requests represent data in our 2007 publications pipeline. Please be on the lookout for the following releases:

• Chinese-English Parallel Web and Newswire Text
• Treebanks in multiple languages
•  Tagged version of Chinese Gigaword 2nd edition

2006 Member Survey - October 25, 2006

2006 is rapidly coming to an end and we would like to inform you that a Membership Survey will be sent to you within the next few weeks. E-mail surveys will be sent to all organizations who have been invoiced for corpora or memberships in 2005 or 2006. This will be your chance to directly tell us your impressions of the LDC and we hope to utilize your feedback in the shaping of our short and long-term strategies. Please be on the lookout for these surveys in mid-November.
